Dennis Troha -- Yes, again..

In March of this year, I wrote the following blog about Dennis Troha:

I know I'm probably a little late with this news, but I've been a little busy. Anyway, pretty interesting that Dennis Troha pulled out of the Kenosha casino project less than a week before he was indicted on charges of fraud and making a false statement to the FBI.

That's all I've got to say.

Except, it sounds like I might've been right about him.

A reader commented and I quote: "I'm sorry, but I missed the news reports saying that he was convicted. Funny how you liberals are the first to recite the constituion and free speech rights, but have memory loss when it comes to the right to a fair trial and innocent until proven guilty."
(BTW, the misspelling of constitution is the readers and not mine.)

Well, well, well, Dennis Troha will be entering his guilty plead within the next two weeks according to the Racine Journal Times. (Sorry I'm late on this, I was out of town this past weekend)

So, I'll say it again.

Looks like I was right about him.

God Bless

The Government's charge of felonies versus two misdemeanors clearly demonstrate that the Government was riding high on the Georgia Thompson train. By quickly settling what they claimed to be felony counts into misdemeanors obviously shows that they fell of that train and ran like chickens after being disgraced by the Court of Appeals. They were obviously looking for some bi-partisan agreement, which they got, in return for having more egg on their face. You have to at least admit that the initial attention this received was far more excessive than the final outcome. Mr. Troha has spent his life helping people and it is unfortunate that people like you only have something to say about him when it involves negative press which has now been once in his 60 years of life. Where were you over the years and years of his community service recognition?. He has helped countless of people in our community and has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to needy causes. Misdemeanor charges that he gave a nominal amount of money to his kids for political contributions does not make him crook. The Government obviously realized that they overreacted. I would imagine most of us have done something in our life that would warrant some type of misdemeanor at a minimum. A few too many drinks one night? Ever try a little weed? Or are you just perfect? The fact that he was a public figure is the only reason why he became a target of a much larger political witch hunt. If he gave his kids some money for nominal contributions, hence the misdemeanor versus felony, does that all of a sudden make him out to be the man you and many other media bandwagon riders make him out to be? I can think of much worse things a human can do so do you really think you were right about him by calling him a cheap son of a bitch and whatever else you had to say about someone you have never met? After all of the media attention and bullshit that has been written and bullshit felony charges, at the end of the day it comes down to this blurb in the paper. That in no way makes you right about him. If you can state a logical case, then state it. Otherwise, have some basis for what you say.

Really, for all his donating, why didn't he pay his employees a decent wage? Why is he known for busting up unions? Why is it that while he was running ATC Leasing, raises were few and far between?

While Troha was being a big guy and donating money all over the place, his employees were barely earning more than minimum wage.

It's easy to donate money when you get a tax right off.

ATC Leasing has long, long tenured employees. If pay is so bad, then why are they still there? Unless you have statistical facts to back up your claims, how can you make those claims? Most people believe they are underpaid. So, you have a friend that works/worked there and has a gripe? This is not the case at every company? Also, at his income level, I doubt he is getting much of a write-off for his donations. Isn't there a tax write off for payroll anyway? Your argument doesn't hold based on that theory. I know people that work there and have been there for many years. They say their loyalty to Mr. Troha is what has kept them there. I hear the atmosphere with the new group in there is completely different. You know how many people have been terminated since the new management has taken over? The people I know worry about it daily, but didn't have that concern before. You did not see this level of employee termination during Mr. Troha's tenure. And the argument about the unions is so misstated. You are actually defending one of the most corrupt unions in the history of labor, The Teamsters, over another union, The Machinists. It has been reported so many times that work that went away from The Teamsters went to another union, The Machinists. The Teamsters started the union-busting claim, but out of being sore losers. How can you be a union-buster when the work is still going to a union? Please explain your stance here. If you ever met Mr. Troha, you would realize that he really is just a guy that wants to help and make other people's lives better. He isn't the monster that the media tried to make him out to be. People in this town that know him have only good things to say about him. You apparently have a different image predicated on something else that does not include actually knowing anything about him. I don't know about employee pay levels, but why aren't those disgruntled people going elsewhere? Has the new management group actually given raises? I have not heard of that being the case. The trucking industry is being gutted by fuel prices. Unless you are in the business, you don't know what the issues are.

Shows what you know about the history of ATC Leasing...First, the trucking industry was doing better on the whole when Troha was running ATC Leasing. Second, people don't stay at their jobs for years because of loyality to him. If that was the case, there would be a lot of people jumping ship. Third, since the new company has taken over, (with the exception of this year), employees have been given raises. There have been Christmas parties and company picnics. There weren't many of those under Troha. And, a lot of the people let go were dead weight anyway.
