Impeach the Liar-in-Chief
 
The generation of American leaders who fought the American Revolution and crafted the United States Constitution examined the most important issues of government. They considered (1) war and peace, (2 ) the limits to government power vs. individual liberties, (3) how officeholders should be controlled by the citizenry and (4) the raising and management of public money. That generation devised impeachment to remove tyrants and corrupt officeholders from positions of public power based on their experience under the government of King George. Under the present circumstances, it is likely that they would vote to impeach and remove from office George W. Bush and Dick Cheney.
 
Bush deserves to be known as Liar-in Chief because he has not been honest with the American public on the most important issues of public policy for the past 5 years of his government. It is amazing that Republicans in Congress were willing to impeach President Bill Clinton over lying about an essentially personal issue over his sex life but are defenders of Bush when he is dishonest on the most important issues of government and public policy.
 
Bush and Cheney were dishonest with the American voters when they pushed the American nation into the invasion and occupation of Iraq. They did not share the full information collected by our intelligence agencies on WMD’s with all the members of Congress or the voters. Cheney and Bush dishonestly tied Saddam Hussein with the 9-11 terrorist attacks on the United States to justify their unjustifiable war policy.
 
The Bush Administration intentionally mislead the American public over the use of the excessive government powers granted the federal government by the falsely-named Patriot Act. They claimed that these powers would only be used to fight terrorism. It has mostly been used for matters unrelated to terrorism. It has almost never been used to fight terrorism.
 
Bush falsely stated that wiretaps under his government were only being conducted under authorization of the federal courts. This was false. Bush violated the law by not getting court authorization for his wiretapping of American citizens. This has not been done since the government of Richard Nixon. Nixon was driven from office based in large part because of this behavior. Bush broke the law passed in the aftermath of Watergate to prevent this kind of governmental abuse of power. Carter and Clinton permitted wiretaps of a handful of foreigners who were agents of foreign governments. Bush wiretapped thousands of American citizens without proven connections to terrorism.
 
Bush and Cheney has repeatedly lied to the American taxpayers over the impact of their program of excessive tax breaks to the Super Wealthy who have financed their political machine. During the 2000 Presidential Election, they promised tax breaks for the wealthy only because our government was in surplus because of the wise management of President Clinton. They stated that they would not support tax cuts if the government budget was in deficit. This was false. They promised a balanced budget but gave use the largest budget deficits in history. They have spent money in the most reckless manner of any American government in history with huge amounts going to their political supporters with much accountability or plan to pay the bills.
 
These issues are certainly not the only issues of public policy were the Bush Administration has not been fully honest. Campaign finance, voting machines, media concentration, oil policy, disaster relief, environmental issues, judicial appointments and most other important issues have been things that were spun by the Bush Administration without little regard for being fully truthful with the American citizens.
 
Our Founding Fathers would not have approved of Bush concerning his honesty or his abuse of the powers of his office. They would have exercised their power of impeachment to remove both Bush and Cheney from office if they were serving in Congress today. Current members of Congress should act the same.

Republicans to Poor “Freeze to Death”
 
Republicans in Congress cut home heating assistance funding to poor Americans by around $200 million. Democrats were seeking $5 billion. Republicans approved $2 billion.
Home heating costs are up around 40 percent to 70 percent over last year depending on the type of heating used.
 
Oil companies have huge excess profits that could be taxed to fund the program. Republicans in Congress have effectively blocked any attempt to tax these excess oil industry profits to help poor Americans from freezing to death.
 
Poor citizens do not give huge campaign contributions to Republican politicians like oil industry executives and oil industry political action committees. The poor tend to vote more Democratic than Republican over economic issues. Freezing to death voters who might support opposing political parties might be good politics but is both un-American and un-Christian. The Republicans in Congress should be kinder to their less fortunate American citizens and try to follow the Christian admonishment to help the poor.
 
These same Republican politicians are supporting cuts in food assistance and health care programs for poor Americans. The results will eventually be the same for some fellow American citizens. They will die earlier and have more unhealthy lives. Is this what America should be doing this Christmas?
 
The Republican “War on the Poor” approach to government is disgusting when contrasted with their strong push for tax cuts for the very wealthiest of the wealthy. They find huge amounts of money to fund tax breaks for giant corporations and no-bid contracts awarded to politically connected companies.
 
The Republican Party has been relying on Christian voters to stay in power while not following core Christian teaching about the treatment of the poor. It is Christmas but the Republicans in Congress seemed not to have read the Biblical tale of the Virgin Mary told in Luke 1:56. Here are some important passages:
 
1:48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 1:49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. 1:50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. 1:51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 1:52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. 1:53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
 
Republican efforts to cut the huge budget deficits created by their tax policies, the unjustified Iraq War and the growing national security state created after 9-11 should not be at the cost of the lives or health of poor Americans. All citizens should contact their representative in Congress and demand help for the poor from our federal government this Christmas. We should ask ourselves “what would Jesus do.” This Christian believes that Christ would help feed, cloth and keep warm the poor.

Merry Belated Christmas...

I know I haven't been online writing any articles, but hey, it's Christmas. I was spending time with my family. I think we have lost the true meaning of Christmas.

Here's how I spent my Christmas

On Christmas Eve, Cheryl and I took our two beautiful grandsons to the children's Mass at church. The church was crowded and the boys were really good. This was their second visit and since they're older, they were more interested in the doings of Mass. They people watched and moved to the upbeat Christmas music.

Later on, my parents came over and we ate and spent valuable family time together with our daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. My son and his girlfriend were late, not appearing until after nine, so I missed singing with the choir. Anyway...

On Christmas, Cheryl and I went to my parents. We spent valuable family time with my brothers and their families.

Here's why I think we've lost the meaning of Christmas.

Burger King was open, along with Walgreens. What is up with that?!? Why are these two places opened on Christmas?!? Shouldn't Christmas -- no matter what your religion -- be about family? Not making someone work away from their family?

Plus, I want to know how Family Video dares calls themselves "Family" Video when they were open from noon to midnight?!?

So, I was thinking that for all our talk of a Christian Nation, we're full of it.

Football should not be played on Christmas. Those players, coaches, Referees and announcers should be home with their families. Burger King, Walgreens, Family Video and movie theatres should be closed on Christmas.

First, it is the day where we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For us Catholics, Christmas is the beginning of our new year. You should not be eating at Burger King and going to the movies on Christmas Day.

Second, at the very least, we should have one day in 365 where we spend time with our family and friends -- for some people their one and the same.

Anyway, that's all of got to say about that -- at least for tonight.

Richard Pryor

I feel sorry for Richard Pryor. Mr. Pryor died December 10 of a heart attack. He suffered for the past eighteen years of MS. I don’t know if you know anything about MS or not, but it is a horrible disease that eats away at your body causing you to lose control of your body. A friend of mine is suffering from it and even though hers is semi-controlled by medication, it is a horrible thing to watch, much less suffer through.

Anyway, getting back to Richard Pryor… I was reading Entertainment Weekly’s tribute to him and I mentioned to Cheryl that I feel sorry for him. He had so much potential – yeah, he threw some of it away with drugs, but he cleaned himself up and then, he was struck with MS. He could no longer work after 1991. Cheryl said that she didn’t feel sorry for him; she felt that he had thrown away his life on drugs and that was that. Anything he got, well, that was just too damn bad.


Sometimes, I wonder about my wife. I must really be a bleeding heart liberal Christian because I almost always feel sorry for anyone who suffers, even if it is at their own hand. Cheryl is a realist and doesn’t feel sorry for anyone who has money – as if money is the great equalizer. If you get cancer and you’re poor, she’ll feel sorry for you, but if you get cancer and you’re a millionaire, oh, well, you have money.But, money doesn’t buy happiness. It buys fancy cars and diamond rings, big houses in the right neighborhoods, but it doesn’t buy happiness. At night, when you crawl into bed, you’re either happy or your not. You either feel lucky to have all the things you have or you have nothing and you’re thankful for your family and friends.

But, again, getting back to Richard Pryor.

I remember a routine he did in the 80's. He apoligized for using the N word in his routines. He said that he had seen the light and that by using the word he was just hurting others of his own race. Unfortunately, I don't think his message really stuck in heads of the young because Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle throw the word around like it doesn't hold anything over them. Well, maybe, that's a good thing. I don't really know, as I'm not black, but I know if you called me a dyke, I'll rip your head off. Maybe, I'm just too sensitive.

I hope he rests in peace because I don’t think he got any here on earth. I just wonder what comedy routines he’s entertaining God with and I hope someday, I’ll get to hear them.

Nissan Computers

Sorry I haven't posted in quite a few days, but Christmas is around the corner and I've been busy...

Anyway, my car's heater went out -- good timing as it is 6 degrees outside. So, it's in the shop overnight and I rented a car. I rented a Nissan Maxima. I didn't ask for the car, I only requested a car. I could've rented a Ford F-150 for the same price. I liked the way the car handled and some of the features, so I thought I'd do some research on Nissan's website regarding their cars and then, I figured I'd write a blog about it.

So, I enter www.nissan.com into my browser's address bar and I was taken to the site of Nissan Computers and I've learned that Nissan Motor is suing Nissan Computers for using the name Nissan.

Well, that's not right.

You see, Nissan Computers is owned by a man named Uzi Nissan. Nissan has been his family's name for generations. When he began his Nissan business holdings, Nissan Motors was still known as Datsun -- remember the Datsuns?

Well, that hasn't stopped a court from seeing things in Nissan's favor (the car company, not Mr. Nissan). This is outrageous.

Now that I've read Mr. Nissan's story and the corruption of our courts -- talk about activist judges -- I have decided that I cannot in good conscience even consider buying a Nissan vehicle. That, by the way, is not an idle comment, as both Cheryl and I will be needing new vehicles in the next two years. Mine is nearing the 130,000 mile mark and Cheryl's car is 14 years old.

So, I ask all of my readers to check out the story and read it for yourself. If you are as upset by this turn of events as I am, please do not consider buying a Nissan for your next vehicle purchase.

David Ludwig

I have two words for those people who support the conceal carry law:

I have searched the web and I cannot find one instance that states that this kid had obtained these weapons illegally, according to CNN, "Indiana police found two other guns along with the Glock that investigators said was used to kill the Bordens -- a Ruger .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol and a Ruger .223-caliber mini-rifle -- and ammunition inside the car. A second search two days later also turned up a Colt .45-caliber pistol, 45 bullets and a holster, the documents state."
It could be possible that these weapons didn't belong to David. The police searched his home (he lived with his parents) and found rifles and other weapons.
How many weapons does one hunter need? And, since when do you need a Glock to shoot a deer? And, why didn't his father, if these guns belonged to Mr. Ludwig and not David, have them under lock and key?
Guess we'll never know just what some parents are thinking.

OSHA and Abercrombie & Finch

I read in a right-wing blog not too long ago that OSHA should be disbanded. That it has outlived its usefulness, etc. I don't remember which blog, but if I find it, I'll post it.

So, I guess four weeks ago TMJ4 in Milwaukee did a report on the noise levels in Abercrombie and other stores in Brookfield mall in Milwaukee. Apparently, these stores had noise levels reaching above 85 decibels.

After the report, OSHA sent Abercrombie a letter ordering them to turn down the music. And, Abercrombie & Finch raised the level of the music -- raised it! Now, it is over 90 decibels. (Just an FYI, anything above 85 can result in permament hearing loss.)

My father is 75% deaf, besides genetics, his hearing loss is probably a direct result of the noisy boiler rooms and machinery he worked with for almost fourty years. I can understand his hearing loss, as no one knew that prolonged exposure to loud noises could harm your hearing quite like they do now.

However, our children shouldn't suffer from hearing loss because the part-time job they took in high school.

The manger at Abercrombie when told by the TMJ4 reporter to turn the music down: "Thing is, I'm just the manager. You can take it up with corporate."

Corporate didn't respond to the reporter's phone calls.

The manager went on to say, "We choose to work here. We're not really...obviously none of these kids care about it. They like it."

So, why write this blog?

Don't bother shopping at Abercrombie & Finch this holiday season or at anytime until they turn down the music.

Paul Bucher

(I should note right here, just because the ad appears in the Google section, it doesn't mean that I support the website to which it points. I don't really get much of a choice, but I was still surprised to see the ad for Paul Bucher.)

Since Paul Bucher’s ad appeared on my site, I thought I should at least check out his website and his stands on the issues. As always, visit his site and research the issues, don’t only take my word for it. Informed voters are good voters, say I.

Here's what Paul Bucher thinks our issues are for the State of Wisconsin:

  • Drugs -- his "the policy is to recommend hard time in all felony drug cases."

  • Well, I do agree that we need to have pushers off the streets, but hard felony time for users doesn’t treat them for their problems. Plus, I really support the legalization of drugs for economic reasons:

  • We will know who is using the drugs

  • We can tax the hell out of them

  • We can use the resources we are wasting on stopping drugs in another venue

  • We can assist with treatment for those who feel that they need it

  • We will lower the overall cost of the drugs, making them affordable, thereby, lowering drug related crimes

  • If you wondering from where I received my points, it was from a Republican, right-wing economics teacher. Smartest man I ever met.

  • Fighting Computer and Cyber Crime – “Paul created Waukesha County’s first Computer Forensic Unit, a partnership between his office and the Sheriff’s Department. The Unit worked with police and prosecutors to investigate and prosecute cases dealing with crimes involving the computer, normally child porn cases and major drug cases. He's had a long term commitment to pursuing Internet sexual predators”

  • I’m all for that. We need strong leadership to continue our fight against sexual predators on the Internet.

  • Domestic Abuse – I’m not going to pull everything over from his site, go look it up yourself, but I will say his site says all the right things.

  • Election Fraud and Public Corruption – “He supports requiring a photo ID for voters because the core of our society is based on fair elections and the trust that elected officials will honestly represent the people.”

  • I don’t support photo ID for voters. It just causes the disenfranchised to not be able to vote. What about those people in nursing homes? And, how will this law affect absentee voters?

  • Also, he states on his site: “Working to ensure there is a photo ID bill will be important but there should also be a focus on corruption among local officials. Currently the US Attorney in the Eastern District has been carrying the water on corruption issues, as have the local DAs.”

  • I wasn’t aware that there was rampant corruption in our state government. We should get right on that. Maybe, I’d be a little more willing to believe his statement if he had backed it up with some facts.

  • Fighting Violent Crime – “The first step in addressing violent crime is to get out of Madison.While the “official” office of the AG will of course be there, Paul plans to spend time working out of a Milwaukee office where he can establish a close working relationship with the US Attorney’s office, Milwaukee's police chief, Sheriff and DA.”

  • I’m all for him getting out of the Madison office, but there is more to the state of Wisconsin than just Madison and Milwaukee. There’s Kenosha, Racine, Waterford, etc. Will he be establishing offices there, as well?

  • Right to Life – “Paul Bucher shares the same-pro-life position as our President, believing simply that unborn children should be welcomed in life and protected in law. He knows the right to life cannot be granted or denied by government, because it does not come from government, it comes from the Creator of life.”

  • Everyone knows that I am a right to life person. However, his site mentions nothing about the death penalty or assisted suicide. I want to know how he feels on those subjects. Since his site states that he shares the same pro-life position as our President, I can only assume that he is pro-death penalty, which is not pro-life.

  • Further, his site states: “He believes our nation was founded upon the idea that every human being is endowed by our Creator with certain "inalienable rights." Chief among them is the right to life itself. The Signers of the Declaration of Independence pledged their own lives, fortunes, and honor to guarantee inalienable rights for all of the new country's citizens.”
    Hmmm, however, based on what his blog states about Falk’s view on the anti-gay amendment, those inalienable rights do not extend to people who are all ready here. BTW, that makes him a hypocrite in my book. If you mention “inalienable rights” to prove a point, but do not really believe in those rights, you’re a hypocrite.

  • Drunk Driving – please read his site for more information. Just one statement regarding it, he doesn’t mention harsher and / or stiffer penalties for drunk drivers. That’s all I want to hear about on the subject from a candidate for Attorney General.

  • The Right to Keep and Bear Arms – “Wisconsin residents with proper training and a permit should have same rights that residents in 46 other states have to protect themselves, their families and their property. Paul Supports the Personal Protection Act, with a provision for officer safety during traffic stops.”

  • Well, we all know how I feel about concealed carry, so enough said.

In case you are wondering, yes, I’ll be following up on the other candidates and making my comments, so stay tuned.



Iraq...

One thing the right wing gets right about Iraq is that fact that we cannot just pull out right now. However; we should slap all those people (right and left combined) who supported the war and are now pulling an about face.

We're there. Our troops are dying at an alarming rate everyday for a war that, in my humble opinion, is unjust and morally unsound. However; since we are there, we need to make sure that when we leave, we do it right.

Because of classes, I haven't had the time to read Bush's exit strategy. I'm hoping that he knows that right now, we don't have enough troops over there to continue what needs to be accomplished before we can walk away.

  • Iraq needs a fully armed and trained military. We disassembled their military and now we have to rebuild it.
  • Iraq needs a fully trained and armed police force. They need to be able to handle crime.
  • Iraq needs some sort of economic stability.
  • Iraq's inflastructure needs to be fully functional. I believe that there are still people without running water and electricty there. Sure, we could decide not to help, but if we do we are only breeding a new generation of Iraqi's that will hate Americans.

If we don't at least accomplish these tasks, then we are leaving Iraq's new government to fail.

We need to fix a lot of things in this country, as well, but I have plenty of time to write a blog about that later.

The People to Defeat the Next Election...

Below is a list of State Senators who voted for the anti-gay amendment. If you live in one of their districts you have an obligation to yourself and to your family to NOT vote for these people. BTW, some people wonder why I rarely vote for a Republican candidate. How can I when this is how they voted? They didn't listen to the constituents. They paid no attention to those who care. Every supporter was a Republican. What does that tell you about the Republican party? What it has told me since the last great Republican died in office (Lincoln). They are truly the party of hate and intolerance.

Scott Fitzgerald -- especially DO NOT SUPPORT THIS MAN. Here is a quote from this mornings Journal Seinel: "The second clause sets the parameters for civil unions," Fitzgerald said. "Could a legislator put together a pack of 50 specific things they would like to give to gay couples? Yeah, they could." He added that he wouldn't draft such legislation himself.

This man hates gays and lesbians with a passion. He has been the most vocal. He needs to be defeated and tossed out on his ass the next time he comes up for re-election.

I've called her office repeatedly, my friends have contacted her and she refused to listen to her constituents and break from party lines. I would strongly suggest that you do not vote for the Republican who choose to run in her place, as I feel McReynolds will be no different from Stepp. They are cut from the same ignorant, hateful, non-Christian, anti-American cloth.

Dave Zien -- Senator Zien belongs in the same group with Fitzgerald. He has been vocal and one of the leaders of spreading this hateful, hurtful, un-American legistlation.

May God have mercy on each of their souls and He takes pity on them for being small-minded and cowardly in their support of an amendment that will devistate so many lives. It takes great courage to stand up for what is good, just and right and it is obvious to me that none of these people have what it takes to be the kind of State Senators our great state deserves.

The good news is that there are some democracts who do have courage to stand up for what is right. If you live in any of their districts, please support them in their next re-election bid:

Wisconsin State Senate...

The Senate put off until today the vote on the anti-gay ban. I am begging you to please contact your Senator as soon as you get this and beg them to vote No for the amendment.

This amendment will not only ban gay marriages, but it will ban civil unions. It will invalidate all living wills gay people currently have with their partners. It will, also, invalidate the living wills that straight unmarried couples have together. Further, this amendment will make it legal to give health benefits to domestic partners -- no matter what the sexual orientation.

We have to stop the amendment now, not wait until it comes for a vote in November. It is despicable that our Senate has chosen to not protect rights of the citizens of the state of Wisconsin.

Further, this amendment, which should matter most to you, our friends and family, is the fact that it will hurt Cheryl and myself. It will hurt us in our jointly owned property, our health benefits and our family.

Card Carrying Lesbian

For years, I've joked with family and friends that I have a Dyke Card, which would be taken away by some indiscretion -- such as not being a vegatarian or being pro-life. Anyway, it was just a joke.

But, not anymore.

I paid my membership fee to the Lesbian Alliance Metro Milwaukee (LAMM). -- Okay, truth be told, Cheryl sent in my renewal. Anyway, I received a very nice letter from Erin, thanking me for my continued support, a bookmark from Community Shares and (drumroll please)

A membership call that proudly proclaims that I am a "Proud Card Carrying Lesbian".

I guess now, I've become a real card carrying lesbian. It only took twenty years!

Moderating comments...

I believe that I wrote sometime ago that I don't like moderating comments, well, it dawned on me that on my Alevai blog I do have the moderate comments turned on. So, before I get a "You're a hypocrite" email from someone, I thought I'd post the same post I put up on Alevai when I started moderating the comments:

Da Boys Part 2

I posted new pictures of the boys, starting here and ending here. They had come down for a visit between 11/16 - 18, so there's a few pictures from that weekend. And, the ones from Thanksgiving weekend.

Professor Christopher Wolf


Marquette Law School professor Christopher Wolf for stated at the Public Hearing regarding the anti-gay amendment, "It's absurd to say everybody should be treated equally." Direct quote. This guy teaches law? Where does he get the idea that it is absurd that everyone should be treated equally? Isn't equality (even though at the time it was only for land-owning white guys) one of the main reasons we broke from the British? Isn't democracy all about equality?

Surely, an educated man could not have meant this in the context from which it was taken. Surely, somehow this must be a misquote.

I hope so or I really feel sorry for the law students at Marquette because of the piss-poor education they are receiving.

Da Boys...Again...

Yeah, I know all of you just tolerate my ranting and ravings because you really want to see the new pictures of my grandsons. You can say it, you won't hurt my feelings... I no longer have any.
So, anyway, as you may or may not know, we spent Thanksgiving with Dustin, Kim, Dustin's Parents -- Michelle and Dan and, of course, Da Boys. Well, I'm not going to blog post all the pictures, but I'll post a taste. This weekend, I'll get the rest of them up.

BTW, the best Thanksgiving meal award goes to Michelle, who is an excellent cook and I wish she would adopt me, so I can move in with her!

After Thanksgiving, we took the boys to meet their Great-Grandma, Mary, who is in Park Falls, this picture of Danny and Cheryl was taken in the Hotel room. Another shoutout -- if you happen to be in Park Falls and you need a place to stay, go to the Super 8. It's a lovely hotel with a terrific staff.

Anyway, I love this picture, because Danny's making such a cute face. It almost looks like one of those faces a kid makes when they're clowning around.

As you all know, it is very hard to get Danny to smile on camera, so I'm very proud of this picture. He's just grinning away. He has such a nice smile, just like his Nana. Okay, okay, it's really just like his Daddy's.

You know how little kids like to shove things in their mouths? Well, Alex took his sock and shoved it in there, so I had to take a picture. Do you think he'll be embarassed someday when he's older?

Probably not. He just looks so happy! Can you believe these guys are only 61/2 months? Their little personalities are just so awesome.

Oh and so I'm fair and post two of Danny and two of Alex, here's one of Alex and his Great-Grandma Mary. He sure is a charmer. He just reached right out to tug on her shirt. With all that was going on, I thought the boys would be a little crabbier, but they were terrific.

I was thinking

In the Declaration of Independence, our founding fathers wrote:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

So, in keeping with the Declaration of Independence, just how can it be okay to vote for an amendment that will deny liberty (and, quite possibly, life) to a group of people? How?

What is so wrong with those people who oppose gay marriage that they cannot see beyond the nose on their own faces?

forty years ago, interracial marriage was frowned upon. If you had asked for an amendment to ban interracial marriages, it probably would've passed and, yet, now, we would consider that unspeakable to deny two people the right to marry.

Am I the only one who thinks this way, because it is beginning to feel that way.

Rosa Parks

Fifty years ago, Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus. Fifty years ago, this small woman, by remaining seated, took a stand for human rights everywhere.

Please, no matter what your race, creed, religion, sexual orientation, take the time today to remember Rosa Parks. Let's try to walk in her footsteps, showing us to not stop until everyone is treated with the respect and dignity that human beings deserve.
